Sunday, September 8th: Somewhere in the pacific ocean

Hello mates, I fear this is our final day in New Zealand. We'll throw up a quick post when we get home with the fam but our adventure in NZ has come to an end. Thanks to all who read and enjoyed, Liz and I had a great time writing and agree that keeping a blog is an excellent way to remember your travels and have a fun, funky, finished product at the end of the trip!

Today was a pretty relaxed affair. We woke up, showered and packed all of our stuff into the two checked bags we brought as well as a small duffle that made the trip here empty. Needless to say... We have a ton of stuff:/ more excellent stories on that later. We checked out of the hotel and since our flight wasn't until 8pm... We were forced to walk around downtown and do more shopping.

I couldn't resist the allure of a sweet deal and well fitting suites so we found ourselves back at Barkers for round two. After making friends with the mates that were working today we asked where a good place to eat was. "Have you been to Mexico!? It is the beeeest place! Oh my god, you must go. Ah! Soooo delicioussss!" The sales guy freaked out and said we had to go to a restaurant called "Mexico" just around the block.

Despite the generic name it served Mexican fusion dishes that were delish and rightly priced. Liz stopped in to a store, and feeling a bit left out from my new wardrobe, bought a pair of new jeans that were discounted some outrageous percent.

With still a couple hours to kill we did what we do best. Find a cafe, eat a scone and read for a bit. At 3 we got our luggage and took a taxi to the airport. This is where the fun began!

So, her is the layout. You are allowed one bag up to 23 kg (50.6 lbs). An extra bag is $150!!!! And then you can have a carry on that is 7kg. We found a scale and packed our bags to exactly 23 kg, checked them and said see ya in cle. Well, we still have TONS of stuff on us. You know, souvenirs, suits, breakable glasses, cameras... So much stuff. So then we figure we are home free... They never check carry on weight right? Wrong, Adam.

So in order to go though security they have some guy checking weight. Welp. Back to the scale we go and distribute the weight as evenly as possible... But we have way more than 7kg a bag. So we load the heaviest stuff in to the smaller bags so they don't look heavy and make sure the big bags are at 7kg. Mind you, this entailed that both of us wear our winter coats and a few extra layers to save weight. So hot!

We must be in the travel gods good graces as only one bag was checked and we were cleared to go! We'll see if they are so kind in LAX:)

Time to board! Back to the states we go!

Cheers and thanks for reading!
