Day 95: Ebbits Pass

We woke up this morning, both feeling groggy. I was cold in the night, and Boom was also uncomfortable, ultimately putting his head at the bottom of the tent to avoid an uncomfortable bump in the ground.

A few miles into the day, we crossed a road where a big bike race was happening, right at one of the rest stops. We were encouraged by volunteers to help ourselves to the snacks and drinks for bikers. There we chatted with a few other thru hikers that must have been just ahead all along and some of the racers and volunteers. Music was blaring; hot chocolate was served; a nice old lady at the finish line hooted and hollered and sometimes danced for the bikers. It was quite fun having a moment back in society mid trail. The contrast of the hikers to the bikers was hilariously dramatic. The bikers were clean cut wearing their snappy gear and pushing bikes worth thousands of dollars. The hikers looked like a bunch of bums who live in the woods with torn clothes, dirt everywhere, overgrown beards, and that wild look in the eye.
