Day 177: Rainy Pass

Mile 2586 to 2609

Holla! A dry sleeping bag in the morning for the first time in a long time! It is these small things that excite us on the PCT. We camped a couple miles from Rainy Pass, the last paved road before Canada.

The hiking today was beautiful. The sky was perfectly blue with light puffy white clouds skating by. The views were fantastic, with yellowing pine trees (larch trees?) scattered in between the evergreens.

We decided to have a proper lunch, since our mileage for the day was lower than usual and this would be our last full day together. Tomorrow I am picking up a Lizzy, and Hawkeye is pushing on to meet his Lisa (Skippy) in Vancouver.

We had to hunt for a decent spot, but we lunched hard for over an hour before groaning and grunting while packing up our bags. The afternoon provided a little discussion on politics (since being in the US Hawkeye has enjoyed political podcasts and is now every bit if not more educated than most Americans). Otherwise, the trail was smooth as we went up and down over several passes.

We enjoyed our dehydrated meals together while sitting on a log and smiled at the dry night and many adventures we've had over the past few months. I'm incredibly excited to see Fey tomorrow, but the reality that we only have a couple more nights out here is setting in.
